BANG. A young feminist’s quest.
BANG. An essay about obsession.
La revanche des moches is an essay written by Léa Clermont-Dion, a 22-year-old feminist that portrays the obsession with physical appearances and the alienation created by the beauty industry. The book is a critical eye on an individual and collective obsession. At the age of 16, the author filed a 1490-name petition to the National Assembly to adopt a code of ethics in the fashion industry in order to fight against eating disorders affecting young people.
Featuring contextual sketchbook-style illustrations, the book also contains analysis, personal extracts, diary pages, statistics, archives and interviews with famous people and artists that give their point of view on the subject: Ariane Moffatt, Pierre Lapointe, Simon Boulerice, Marc Béland, Denis Gagnon, Geneviève St-Germain, Marc-André Grondin, Bianca Gervais, and more. The book is structured in chapters named after 6 body parts: the body, the stomach, the feet, the face and the eyes. La revanche des moches is more than a portrait, it’s a quest!
