BANG. A young feminist's quest.
BANG. An essay on the obsession with appearances.
Revenge of the Ugly is an essay written by Léa Clermont-Dion, a 22-year-old feminist, which addresses the obsession with appearances and the alienation created by the beauty industry. This book is a critical look at a collective and individual obsession that affects us all, directly or indirectly. At the age of 16, the author submitted a petition of 1,490 names to the National Assembly to adopt a code of ethics in the fashion industry to combat eating disorders among young people.
Interspersed with contextual sketchbook-style illustrations, this book contains analyses, personal excerpts, diary entries, statistics, archives, and, most importantly, interviews with several well-known artists and personalities who share their perspective on the subject: Ariane Moffatt, Pierre Lapointe, Simon Boulerice, Marc Béland, Denis Gagnon, Geneviève St-Germain, Marc-André Grondin, Bianca Gervais, and many more. The book is structured into six chapters: The Body, The Stomach, The Feet, The Hands, The Face, and The Eyes. The Revenge of the Ugly is not just an investigation, it's a quest!
